African Masks

 

African Masks have become the symbol of AfricaAfrican Mask Chokwe Female
to the modern world, these Tribal Masks are highly
prized and sought after Art Works used for African 
Decor.
Artistic Wood Masks with African patterns are
used in religious and cultural ceremonies to 
honor life, death, war, famine and marriage.
Due to the decline in natural resources Tribal 
Sculptures and African Crafts are increasingly
moving away from the traditional wood, into
the more readily available medium of 
Soapstone Carving.
One of the most recognisable masks in Africa 
comes from the Chokwe Tribe of Angola, West
Africa whose artworks and masks have spilt 
over and influenced the lives of  neighbouring
tribes and countries. These masks are 
traditionally made from wood, cloth and resin,
most with fibre hair.  The colours range from a 
dull brown through to black with some being 
very colourful.
