African Metal Sculptures.

Metal Sculptures are an exciting part of the Arts metal-sculpture-warthog-1200
and Crafts Industry in South Africa and are used

extensively for African Decor.

These sculptures are incredibly labour intensive
and so are usually made by a group of African
Craftsmen from old oil and chemical drums.
To make these sculptures the Artists start off by
making a thick wire framework in the exact
shape of the subject that they want to create, then
the drums are cut open and placed in open fires to
burn the previous content. These sheets of metal are
cut into smaller pieces with a homemade guillotine
and then placed onto the wire framework where
they are welded into place to complete the metal
work of art. Varnish mixed with petrol is then
painted on to stop the rust.
The Artists create a wide variety of African Wildlife
Sculptures
with the most popular being Metal
Warthogs and
Metal Gecko's.

This Art Form is considered enviromentally friendly as the old oil drums which are considered a waste product, are now recycled into beautiful works of art for both indoor and outdoor decor.
