African Clay Pots

Traditionally, African Clay Pots were made toclay-pot-africa-1200
store African beer, a small lid made of grass
was placed over the top to keep out insects.

The African Artist selects clay with a suitable
consistency which is then rolled into long pieces
of clay about the thickness of a persons finger.
This is then looped around and around and
pressed into the shape of the pot, the outside
of the pot is then smoothed over and intricate
patterns are etched into it.

The clay pot is then baked in an open fire pit
made from dried cactus leaves which results
in the uneven colors of the baked pot.
